FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Sen. Mitch McConnell’s campaign is hitting Matt Bevin with a new statewide radio ad that attacks the Republican challenger’s position on the bank bailout.
The ad debuting Thursday says Bevin’s inconsistency on the issue reflects a “pattern of deceptions.”
As an investment firm president, Bevin signed a report to investors praising the $700 billion federal bank bailout, years before making it a campaign issue and criticizing McConnell for voting for it.
Bevin says he didn’t write “investment commentary” for such reports.
The McConnell ad says the matter shows Bevin isn’t “who he says he is.”
Meanwhile, Bevin is running a TV ad that accuses McConnell of voting for billions in earmarks.
A second ad stresses Bevin’s support of gun rights. Both ads are running on cable channels.
Bevin is challenging McConnell in the May 20 primary.
