FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A man has pleaded guilty in the 2009 shooting death of another man in Cumberland County.

The Fayetteville Observer reported (https://bit.ly/1cu6SNb) that Avery Peterson pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon in court on Wednesday.

Twenty-seven-year-old Christopher Clark died after he was struck by a stray bullet during a fight in the parking lot of a restaurant in July 2009.

Peterson had originally been charged with murder. He is to be sentenced after attorneys present aggravating and mitigating factors in the case.

There are conflicting accounts on how the fight started. Clark was a security guard at the restaurant and was escorting a couple to their car when shots were fired.
