BUTTE, Mont. (AP) - A former Butte man charged with deliberate homicide in his father’s 2008 death has waived extradition.

Adam Hatfield was arrested in Hot Springs, S.D., on Wednesday on a warrant charging him in the death of 49-year-old Mark Hatfield, who was last seen in November 2008.

Butte-Silver Bow law enforcement officers say Adam Hatfield waived extradition Friday and will be returned to Butte next week.

Sheriff Ed Lester tells The Montana Standard (https://bit.ly/NjBxmW ) that officers long considered Adam Hatfield a “person of interest” in the case. Adam and his father had been living in a cabin on Matt’s mother’s property when his father disappeared. Matt Hatfield’s sister reported him missing in late December 2008.

Lester said the charge was filed now that investigators have proof that Matt Hatfield is dead. He would not say what that proof was.
