CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa prison employee is charged with impersonating a police officer and robbery for allegedly pulling over a woman and robbing her at gunpoint.

Iowa Medical and Classification Center officer John Woerdehoff is being held Friday at the Dubuque County Jail.

Woerdehoff is accused of using flashing flights on his vehicle Jan. 30 to stop a woman on Highway 13 north of Cedar Rapids. The woman believed he was driving an unmarked car. Police say he approached her car wearing a ski mask, displayed what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money. Fearing for her life, the woman complied.

Woerdehoff is also charged with first-degree robbery for allegedly stealing items from a Cascade home. Authorities say items seized from a search of Woerdehoff’s home link him to that crime.
