SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Northern California authorities are investigating the fatal shooting by officers of a man carrying a knife near a college campus.

San Jose police say the shooting occurred as two San Jose State University officers responding to multiple calls spotted a man walking around with a large knife near the southern edge of campus Friday morning.

San Jose police spokesman officer Albert Morales says the suspect began charging at the campus officers who had asked him to drop the knife when one officer fired his stun gun at the man.

Morales said the stun gun had no effect on the suspect, so the second officer shot him with a handgun.

The suspect was taken to Valley Medical Center where he died a short time later.

Police say neither officer was injured.
