CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - A New Mexico couple is apologizing through a court-ordered newspaper ad for defrauding the U.S. Air Force.

The paid ad by Donald and Sherri Brewer is a result of a federal judge’s sentencing order for the couple’s convictions on fraud charges in a procurement case.

In the ad published Friday in the Clovis News Journal (https://bit.ly/1gRgu6b), the Brewers said they created a sham company in San Antonio, Texas, to fraudulently obtain federal contracts and spend the proceeds to purchase airplanes, cars, houses and businesses.

They said they regretted those acts and the troubles that they caused their family and friends and the American people.

Court records indicate the couple was also required to pay restitution, and stripped of all assets except for one automobile.
