CHICAGO (AP) - Illinois’ top Democratic leaders are decrying continuing violence in Ukraine.

Gov. Pat Quinn says he salutes the pro-democracy movement in Ukraine, but urges demonstrators to refrain from violence. Congressman Mike Quigley is calling for President Barack Obama to impose targeted sanctions on the Ukrainian officials responsible for authorizing continued violence against the protesters.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin says Ukrainian officials involved in violence should face a freeze on their assets as well as a visa ban from the United States.

Deadly clashes between police and anti-government protesters in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev have left dozens of people dead and hundreds injured this week.
