DEKALB, Ill. (AP) - Northern Illinois football coach Rod Carey has gotten a contract extension and a raise.

NIU made the announcement on Friday. Carey’s contract now runs through June 30, 2019. The school didn’t release his salary but said it puts him in the top half of football coaches in the Mid-American Conference.

Carey led the Huskies to a 12-0 regular season and two wins over Big Ten Conference teams. The 24th-ranked Huskies lost 21-14 in their Poinsettia Bowl appearance against Utah State.

Carey was NIU’s offensive coordinator when he took the head coaching job in December 2012.

Carey says in a statement from the school that he’s “happy and excited about where NIU football is and where it’s going.”
