OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Creighton University is hoping to feather its scholarship fund with a little friendly competition.

The Omaha-based private university is participating in a three-week “Battle of the Beaks” fundraising competition, which wraps up March 12.

The competition is a targeted three-week challenge to increase fundraising participation by alumni and undergraduate students from the three Big East schools which have birds as mascots: Creighton, Marquette University in Milwaukee and St. John’s University in New York.

Creighton’s donations will go to the Creighton Fund, which helps Creighton students with scholarships.

The university with the highest funds raised will be announced before the first game of the Big East men’s basketball tournament on March 12.
