GRAHAM, N.C. (AP) - A judge has found a 27-year-old man who stole a gun from a Burlington Police officer and tried to shoot another officer not guilty by reason of insanity.

The Times-News of Burlington reports (https://bit.ly/1jo88DA ) the judge made his ruling that Tarron Calloway didn’t know what he did was wrong after he heard testimony Friday from a psychologist. Calloway was sent to a mental hospital to get treatment.

The psychologist testified Calloway thought he was defending himself from someone who put a voodoo curse on him when he stole the officer’s gun in a struggle in 2012.

Authorities say Calloway ejected the magazine from the gun as he took it from the officer’s holster, so it was unloaded when he fired on officers. An officer fired back, but Calloway wasn’t hit.
