DENVER (AP) - A 32-year-old man accused of wounding his estranged wife, killing her neighbor and setting several makeshift explosive devices in southwest Denver has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

The Denver Post reports (https://bit.ly/1hi7buv ) that Daniel Abeyta pleaded not guilty Friday to first-degree murder, using incendiary devices during a murder, first-degree assault and child abuse.

Prosecutors say he wounded his wife, 26-year-old Autume Estrada, and killed her neighbor, 46-year-old Sandra Roskilly, on Aug. 16. After the slaying, Abeyta was shot by police after they say he fired at a propane tank with gunpowder on top.

District Judge Ann Frick accepted Abeyta’s plea Friday and ordered him to undergo a mental health evaluation.
