DALLAS (AP) - A Mexican national convicted of at least three rapes in the Dallas area has been sentenced to life in prison.

State District Judge Mike Snipes said Friday he would have preferred to sentence 38-year-old Jose Rico to “a trillion years in jail” but had to follow the law. Rico is eligible for parole after 30 years.

He was convicted last month of sexual assault of a child for attacks on one 12-year-old girl and another 14 years old. He’s also tied to the rape of a woman.

The Dallas Morning News reports (https://dallasne.ws/1cBi9eH) a partial license plate number helped detectives to the man who became known in Dallas as the Five Points rapist, named for the area of the city where the assaults occurred between 2007 and 2009.
