LESLIE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a man was killed when a 40-foot tree he was cutting on his girlfriend’s Lansing-area land fell on him.

The accident happened Saturday in Ingham County’s Leslie Township, about 15 miles southeast of Lansing.

WILX-TV reports the sheriff’s department says the man was cutting wood for most of the day, and his girlfriend was concerned when he didn’t return to her home. The department says he’d been dead some time when she found him about 5 p.m.

Sgt.Tim O’Neill tells the Lansing State Journal the man was in his 60s. The victim’s name wasn’t immediately released.

The department says the tree he was cutting with a chain saw was nine to 10 inches in diameter.
