SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - A 51-year-old Sparks man has been arrested for allegedly beating his girlfriend with a wooden cane in an attack police say left her with a bleeding head and a broken leg.

Police say they arrested Nicholas Polisso Sunday afternoon after the victim reported the abuse at a residence where the two live on View Street. He’s been charged with domestic battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm.

Sparks police said in a statement it’s the second time Polisso has been charged with domestic battery. Investigators say the victim had been arguing with him when he struck her in the head and leg with the cane.

He initially eluded police, but later was caught at the residence. He’s being held in the Washoe County Jail on $25,000 bail.
