BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - The Boulder County District Attorney is using more grand juries to review cases before they go to trial.

Boulder District Attorney Stan Garnett says the grand jury system has been underused over the past eight years and he wants more citizen participation.

Garnett says since he took over as the top prosecutor in 2009, his office has taken 54 cases to grand juries. Over 20 of those cases resulted in grand jury indictments naming over 100 defendants.

The Boulder Daily Camera reports (https://tinyurl.com/k9246y2 ) court records show only three cases were taken to a grand jury between 2006 and 2009.
