BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - The former supervisor of the Billings parking division who stole thousands of dollars in parking fees has been given a two-year deferred sentence.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1bGogjH ) 36-year-old Christopher Leigh Mallow was sentenced Monday on one count of felony theft by embezzlement. District Judge G. Todd Baugh also ordered him to pay $6,587.06 in restitution.

Mallow was placed on paid leave in April and fired in May after an investigation determined that money was missing from the parking division.

Police received information that he was removing cash from parking fine envelopes, and a detective with a search warrant set up a surveillance camera and recording equipment in the city office where parking ticket payments were received. Prosecutors say Mallow was caught on video removing envelopes and the money inside.
