SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A former Syracuse firefighter who admitted distributing child pornography was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Local media report that 51-year-old Mark Raite of Clay apologized Monday in Onondaga County Court and took responsibility for his actions. A prosecutor said Raite shared more than 10,000 images of child pornography on the Internet.

Raite pleaded guilty in December to promoting a sexual performance by a child. Under a plea agreement, he received the maximum under state law but avoids federal child porn charges.

Raite retired a week before his arrest last summer following a three-month investigation. He was charged with felony possessing a sexual performance by a child and promoting a sexual performance by a child after police seized a computer at his home with videos and images of child pornography.
