PHOENIX (AP) - Human remains found nearly two years ago by construction crews working on the new Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office headquarters were laid to rest over the weekend.

KPHO-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1nYZPy2) that caskets holding the remains were reburied Saturday in a special ceremony at Pioneers’ Cemetery in Phoenix.

The Phoenix Pioneer Cemetery Association says 15 graves were found in May 2012.

They say the graves had whole caskets, portions of caskets or just bones. Altogether, the remains of 14 people were discovered.

Maricopa County spokeswoman Cari Gerchick says a cemetery may have once existed at the construction site in the 1800s.
