KNOB NOSTER, Mo. (AP) - Authorities in western Missouri are investigating the death of an airman assigned to Whiteman Air Force Base.

Whiteman spokeswoman Jennifer Green said in a release Monday the airman was found dead Sunday at his home in Leeton, which is about 20 miles southeast of the Whiteman base in Knob Noster.

The victim’s identity and cause of death haven’t been released. Green says he was assigned to the 509th Maintenance Group.

Ken Landes, a detective with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, says the sheriff’s department is investigating because the incident happened off the base.
