BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Kevin Burbach is joining The Associated Press as a general assignment reporter in Bismarck.

Burbach, 23, is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, where he worked as a reporter, associate editor and managing editor of The Minnesota Daily.

The appointment was announced Tuesday by Central Region Editor David Scott and Upper Midwest News Editor Doug Glass.

For the Daily, Burbach covered the Minnesota Legislature and produced an overall body of work that took second place in the Associated Collegiate Press competition for national reporter of the year in 2012. He later oversaw a policy team that covered state and city government and the university’s administration and regents.

Burbach also interned at the Minneapolis Star Tribune and the online news site MinnPost.
