BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - Authorities say a Yellowstone County sheriff’s deputy shot and wounded one suspect and a second suspect attempted to steal a police car in Laurel.

The sheriff’s department tells the Billings Gazette (https://tinyurl.com/lxq98jp ) the first suspect suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the confrontation Monday.

Authorities say the suspect was carrying a weapon when he allegedly stole a pickup from a parking lot, and the deputy fired as the truck drove away. The pickup later crashed and the suspect was arrested.

Laurel police say the other suspect got into a squad car and tried to drive away, but an officer jumped in, subdued the suspect and handcuffed him.

Authorities say the altercation started when police tried to question the men about an attempted car theft and chase that occurred Saturday.
