MANNING, S.C. (AP) - A Clarendon County jail officer has been charged with stealing an inmate’s credit card information to pay his own personal bills.

The Sumter Item reports (https://bit.ly/1cLbjDv ) that 33-year-old Terrance Lavon Watson of Summerton has been charged with credit card theft and financial transaction card fraud.

Police say they were notified of the alleged fraud earlier this month, when a man who had been jailed in Clarendon County noticed a strange charge on his wife’s credit card.

Records show that the card was used in November - three weeks after the man was jailed - to pay an insurance bill in Watson’s name for more than $350.

Officials say Watson no longer works at the jail. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.
