GOLDEN MEADOW, La. (AP) - Preliminary plans to build the second and final elevated section of La. Highway 1 between Golden Meadow and Leeville is moving forward.

La. 1 Coalition Director Henri Boulet (boo-LAY’) tells The Daily Comet (https://bit.ly/1porM5T) the plans are 95 percent complete and are being vetted by the state Department of Transportation and Development.

The department will make any necessary modification to ensure the roadway meets state standards for construction, after which the coalition can begin development on the final plans.

Boulet says the coalition is also in the process of brokering an arrangement between the state and various oil and gas companies using the bridge to match financial contributions to build the initial $42 million segment.

The $330 million project is now expected to be completed sometime around 2017.
