MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) - A man who fatally shot his father during a robbery at their northern New Jersey home has pleaded guilty to felony murder charges.

Twenty-eight-year-old Brendon Matos of Randolph also pleaded guilty Tuesday to robbery and a weapons offense stemming from the July 2011 slaying of 56-year-old Nelson Matos. He faces up to 40 years in state prison when he’s sentenced April 25.

In return for his plea, Morris County prosecutors agreed to dismiss several other charges against Matos.

Authorities have said the two men were alone in the home when the robbery occurred. They said Brendon Matos wanted to get money so he could buy drugs.
