PITTSBURGH (AP) - Investigators have pinpointed the origin of a downtown Pittsburgh fire that damaged a restaurant, as well as a bagel shop and champagne lounge next door.

Public safety officials first believed Monday’s fire started in the rear of a Bruegger’s Bagel shop then spread to Perle’, a champagne and tapas lounge located upstairs. But detectives now say the fire started in the ceiling above a wood fire oven at Nola, a New Orleans-themed bar and restaurant..

The champagne lounge, which generally operates in the evening, was closed when firefighters entered it to battle the fire about 12:45 p.m. Monday, as smoke poured from the front of the upstairs business and through a rear roof.

The bagel shop and Nola evacuated without incident, except for a restaurant chef who was burned trying to stop the fire with an extinguisher.
