BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio driver arrested after a hit-and-run crash that killed a U.S. Marine from Virginia is being held on $50,000 bond.

Twenty-six-year-old Holly Fowler of Urbana had an initial appearance Tuesday in municipal court in Bellefontaine (behl-FOWN’-tihn), roughly 50 miles northwest of Columbus. Her case is being sent to county court. She’s charged with failure to stop after an accident and tampering with evidence.

Defense attorney Darrell Heckman says Fowler is a lifelong area resident with no criminal record, and he’s disappointed she didn’t receive a lower bond. He declined to comment on details of the case.

A vehicle struck 34-year-old Monica Plank of Stafford, Va., on Feb. 16 shortly after midnight. Police say Fowler admitted responsibility and damage on Fowler’s car is consistent with evidence at the scene.
