MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont officials say Chittenden, Ira and Pittsford will be getting expanded broadband internet access.

The Vermont Telecommunication Authority announces that new wireless infrastructure will reach unserved locations including Casey and Middle Roads in Chittenden, West Road in Ira and Allen Mills Road, Fire Hill Road and Five Allen Boys Lane in Pittsford.

Gov. Peter Shumlin says these improvements help “Vermont reach its goal of providing high-speed Internet access to 100 percent of Vermonters.”

The grant comes from the state’s Connect VT initiative and the infrastructure will be built by GAW High-Speed Internet, a private New England internet company. GAW has been awarded about $64,000 for the project with a minimum contribution by them of $28,000.

The upgrades are due to be completed in mid-June.
