LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An Arkansas lawmaker and a Hot Springs accountant have officially entered the race for the state treasurer’s office.
State Rep. Duncan Baird, a Republican, submitted paperwork Wednesday to make his bid official for the post against Republican Saline County Circuit Clerk Dennis Milligan. Both are seeking the GOP’s nomination for the position in the May primary.
Hot Springs accountant Karen Sealy Garcia, a Democrat, also submitted her application Wednesday for the office after Baird.
Former state treasurer Martha Shoffner resigned last year over charges that she accepted money from a broker to whom she pushed state business toward. She is set to go on trial next month for those charges.
The one-week political filing period ends Monday.
