RONKONKOMA, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island couple has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after heroin and their infant were found in their vehicle.
Suffolk County police say they were found to be in possession of a large quantity of heroin on Tuesday. Their 5-month-old son was in the car.
According to Newsday (https://bit.ly/1cOVHyO0 ), the couple was stopped after police observed the car traveling erratically.
Nicholas Hernandez, of Islip, and the mother also were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
The woman’s name was withheld because police say she is a victim of domestic violence. She was also charged with criminal impersonation and numerous traffic violations.
Hernandez was additionally charged with criminal contempt for violating an order of protection.
It wasn’t immediately clear if they had a lawyer.
