CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has been named president of the Council of State Governments.

Tomblin served as the organization’s national chairman in 2006 when he was president of the state Senate. He also was chairman of the Council of State Governments‘ Southern Legislative Conference in 1998.

Tomblin and Council of State Governments chairman Mark Norris have picked workforce development as the group’s initiative for this year.

The Lexington, Ky.-based Council of State Governments fosters the exchange of insights and ideas to help state officials shape public policy.
