CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A former Merrimack Valley Youth Baseball and Softball League treasurer been sentenced to six months in jail for embezzling more than $15,000 from the organization.

WMUR-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1ftUbVi) that Michelle Toupin’s defense attorney asked for a 10-day sentence Thursday, but Judge Larry Smuckler noted that it was the second time this week he dealt with someone in a financial position violating the public’s trust. On Tuesday, the former budget director at Southern New Hampshire University pleaded guilty to stealing more than $1 million, and Smuckler said he wanted to send a message to others in similar positions.

Toupin, who stole the money between March and August of last year, apologized and said she didn’t plan on stealing so much.
