COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Colorado Springs police say a 66-year-old woman has been charged with neglect after her 98-year-old mother was found dead in a filthy home.

Police say they found Yuta Hagio dead in her home in January. The detective who responded described the home as unlivable, with trash piled 3 feet high and feces from rats, mice, cats and dogs everywhere.

According to KOAA-TV (https://tinyurl.com/mh3rbvt ), investigators determined that Yuta Haigo’s daughter, Jeanne, was her caretaker. The woman told police the care she provided was adequate before charges were filed.

Investigators said Yuta had not eaten solid food in over three weeks and hadn’t bathed in two months.

An autopsy determined that the woman died of cardiovascular disease and significant dehydration.

Colorado Springs Code Enforcement condemned the home due to the conditions inside
