CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) - A man convicted of burglarizing, and then setting fire to, the New York home of an Air National Guard reservist and state trooper who was serving overseas in 2012 has been sentenced to 12 to 18 years in prison.
A state judge handed down the prison term to Harry Fleischmann Jr. Friday. Information on his attorney wasn’t immediately available.
Prosecutors say Fleischmann ransacked Eric Carver’s East Patchogue (PACH’-awg) home while he was on duty in Africa, stealing his SUV, off-duty handgun, holster, ammunition and generator before pouring gas and setting the home on fire.
Carver is also a state trooper. He tells Newsday (https://bit.ly/1pGLRVf ) he’s happy the judge gave the 34-year-old Fleischmann the maximum sentence.
Fleischmann had previously been convicted for burglary and was on parole when he was arrested.
