SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A San Antonio man is jailed after a mother accused him of sticking a jalepeno (hah-leh-PEHN’-yoh) pepper in her 9-year-old son’s eye.

San Antonio police say 29-year-old Michael Barron was arrested after the Wednesday evening incident. Police spokeswoman Sandy Gutierrez says Barron told the boy’s mother that he was going to shove a pepper into the boy’s mouth, but the mother warned him not to touch the child. The mother said he then stuck the pepper in the eye of the child, causing the boy to grab the inflamed eye and cry in pain.

Gutierrez says officers found the boy’s eye swollen and irritated when they arrived at the scene.

Barron is in the Bexar (BAYR) County Jail and has been denied bond because of an outstanding warrant.
