NEW YORK (AP) - A rookie NYPD officer who was shot in the line of duty has gone home from the hospital.

The Daily News (https://nydn.us/1lpGdpQ ) says Officer James Li (lee) carried a teddy bear Friday as he left Kings County Hospital in a wheelchair. Dozens of fellow officers applauded as he got into a waiting car with family members.

Li and his partner were trying to apprehend a bus farebeater on Wednesday. Authorities say the suspect opened fire while fleeing, hitting Li three times in the legs.

Rashun Robinson was arraigned Thursday night on charges including attempted murder of a police officer. Information for his attorney wasn’t immediately available.

Off-duty EMTs Shaun Alexander and Khadijah Hall rushed to Li’s aid. They got a standing ovation Friday at a police promotion ceremony.
