YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - Federal authorities say a convicted sex offender who had previously faced charges in Iowa has been arrested in southwestern Arizona.

U.S. Border Patrol agents from Wellton Station say they arrested 27-year-old Jose Panchillo Castro on Saturday near Dateland.

Following his arrest, agents say they learned of Castro’s conviction during a records check.

Authorities say Castro had previously been arrested by Columbus Junction police in Iowa for solicitation of lascivious acts with a child and he was deported from the United States.

Border Patrol officials say Castro has been turned over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

It was unclear Monday if he has a lawyer.
