NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a former state Labor Department employee diverted more than $60,000 in unemployment benefits intended for other people into her personal bank account.

Essex County prosecutors say 46-year-old Anna Catarino of Newark faces fraud, computer theft and related charges. She’s due to be arraigned Feb. 11, and it wasn’t known Tuesday if she has retained a lawyer.

Prosecutors say Catarino ran the scheme last year, from February through October, while she worked for the labor department in Newark. She allegedly used the names of people she knew were receiving unemployment payments, including longtime friends who she had helped fill out benefit forms.
