RENO, Nev. (AP) - A warm January didn’t melt the success of Reno’s ice skating rink.

Sunday was the last day to skate on the Rink on the River downtown.

City spokeswoman Sharon Spangler says despite the mild winter, overnight temperatures below freeing helped keep the ice solid.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the seasonal attraction also surpassed last year’s profits of $74,000.

Officials add that a new school calendar giving Washoe County students three weeks off for the holidays helped boost business.
