GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Defense lawyers say they will appeal the conviction of a Grand Junction woman who was found guilty of fatal child abuse after her two young sons overheated and died when left alone in her SUV.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported Tuesday (https://tinyurl.com/mtvxaoo ) the Colorado Public Defender’s Office plans to decide on the grounds for the appeal after Heather Jensen’s sentencing on March 21.

Jensen was convicted Friday of false reporting as well as child abuse resulting in death. She was acquitted on charges of criminally negligent homicide.

Prosecutors said Jensen’s 2- and 4-year-old boys died of hyperthermia after she left them in her SUV with the motor running and the heater on in late November 2012. Prosecutors say she was having sex and smoking marijuana in another vehicle nearby.
