NEW YORK (AP) - A New York man has been sentenced to up to 32 years in prison after being convicted of running a prostitution ring with such severe control that he wouldn’t let a teenager eat when she didn’t earn enough money selling herself.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office says Taye Elleby was sentenced Wednesday to 10 2/3 to 32 years behind bars. He was convicted in December of sex trafficking and promoting prostitution.

Defense lawyer Sidney Lester says Elleby plans to appeal.

Prosecutors say the 36-year-old Elleby ran a prostitution business from his Harlem apartment. They say he forced a 17-year-old prostitute to give him almost all the money she made and attacked her when she broke his rules.

Lester says Elleby didn’t force the women in the case to do anything.
