TUBA CITY, Ariz. (AP) - An Arizona man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison in the fatal shooting of a man in Tuba City.
Randly Begay was convicted in August of second-degree murder in the death of 48-year-old Roderick Ben and discharging a firearm during a violent crime.
The 28-year-old Begay was sentenced in late January by U.S. District Judge Neil Wake.
Authorities say Begay shot Ben in the head while they were sitting in a van outside Begay’s home in March.
Begay’s attorney argued that Begay had no motive to kill Ben and that prosecutors never proved that Begay fired a weapon. The judge denied Begay’s request for acquittal.
