ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Two Albuquerque police officers are on paid leave as authorities investigate what happened in response to an abusive, profanity-laced 911 recording linked to the address of a 9-year-old boy who died months later.

Albuquerque police traced the June 23 call to the same site where Omaree Varela was found dead in December.

His mother, 38-year-old Synthia Varela-Casaus, has been indicted on various charges, including child abuse resulting in death.

Two officers were sent to the home in June in response to the 911 call but there was no report or contact with child protective services.

Police are investigating whether policies and procedures were followed.
