ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Brent Sass maintains his lead in the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog race.

The musher from Eureka, Alaska, was the first to arrive in Dawson City. He came into the checkpoint late Tuesday night, about two-and-a-half hours ahead of the second place musher, Allen Moore of Two Rivers.

For being the first to the checkpoint, Sass will receive the Dawson Award, which is 4 ounces of gold, if he completes the race.

According to the Yukon Quest website, all mushers must serve a mandatory 36-hour layover in Dawson City.
