BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Residents of Beaufort County are slated to gather to discuss the pros and cons of a cannonball jellyfish processing plant.

On Thursday, people will get the chance to talk to local officials and representatives from Carolina Jelly Ball LLC at a public meeting at James Davis Elementary School.

The jellyfish would be caught in local waters, processed and then shipped to Asian markets where they are considered a culinary delicacy. Regulators are considering permit applications for the plant.

Some residents say they’re concerned about potential environmental fallout from the facility. Company representatives say those concerns are unfounded and will be addressed at the meeting.
