STERLING, Ill. (AP) - Authorities have identified a 58-year-old man who died in a fire that destroyed an abandoned western Illinois duplex.
The (Sterling) Daily Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1kYErcC ) Tuesday’s blaze killed John Ennells of Sterling.
Authorities say the fatal fire was started accidentally. Ennells’ body was found in a second-floor bedroom.
Fire officials have said they believed the man was homeless. No utilities were working in the building.
Firefighters were called to the scene at about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, and it took about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Deputy Fire Chief Mike Dettman says an investigation into the fire is continuing.
