COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - A dentist who practices in both Alabama and Georgia has pleaded guilty to tax evasion.

Federal prosecutors say Dr. Dayo Obebe of Muscogee County, Ga., entered the plea Thursday during a court hearing in Columbus.

The Justice Department says Obebe operated Moon Road Cosmetic and Family Dentistry in Columbus and Brent Dental in Bibb County, Ala.

Prosecutors say the doctor underreported the income from his businesses by more than $500,000 from 2004 through 2006. They say he evaded more than $185,000 in payments to the Internal Revenue Service during the same period.

Authorities say Obebe has agreed to pay about $190,000 in restitution to the IRS.

Obebe could receive a prison term of as long as five years and $250,000 in fines, but no sentencing date is set.
