PHOENIX (AP) - A team assigned to review child abuse and neglect reports that weren’t investigated by Arizona child welfare officials say more cases were identified.
The number of cases is 6,600. That’s up from 6,554 cases originally identified in December.
The so-called CARE team named by Gov. Jan Brewer on Dec. 2 provided the latest update Thursday.
It says all but three of the 6,600 cases have been assigned to investigators.
The final three cases are on Indian reservations and out of the state’s jurisdiction. Those cases have been referred to tribal authorities.
The CARE team says almost 6,400 children identified in the reports now have been seen and nearly 4,900 cases have had a response.
