BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A New York couple is charged in connection with the apparent overdose deaths of two inmates at Attica Correctional Facility.

U.S. Attorney William Hochul (HOH’-kuhl) said Wednesday that Elizabeth Camue-Martinez and her husband, Andres Martinez, an Attica inmate, are charged with smuggling heroin and marijuana into the maximum-security prison in western New York.

Investigators say the charges are linked to the apparent drug-related deaths of two Attica inmates within hours of each other in December. Their names haven’t been released.

Hochul says the couple hasn’t been charged with the deaths but that the investigation is ongoing.

It’s unknown if the couple has retained an attorney.
