NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A man charged in a fatal shooting last year outside a southeastern Pennsylvania bar is trying to distance himself from his cousin who also is charged in the slaying.

Twenty-seven-year-old Michael Hinton of Norristown and his cousin, 20-year-old Maurice Andrews Jr. of Pottstown, are charged in the March 2013 slaying outside Brian’s Cafe in Pottstown.

The (Pottstown) Mercury (https://bit.ly/1evbhBW) reports Thursday that Hinton has filed court papers asking a judge to prevent prosecutors from presenting trial testimony claiming he knew his cousin allegedly stole a firearm from victim Victor Baez and tried to kidnap one of Baez’s associates.

Hinton and Andrews are slated to stand trial separately later this year on charges of first-, second- and third-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and firearms violations in the slaying last March.
