BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say one person has died in a fire at the old Adams Inn in Birmingham.

Firefighters say the blaze started on the second floor of the structure in the early morning hours on Friday. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

WBMA reports (https://bit.ly/MxefcU) that six to eight people were living in the building. The Red Cross was at the scene early Friday assisting those people.

The building was badly damaged in a fire in July 2013. WBMA reports that the Birmingham City council has approved $750,000 to demolish the building, but action has not yet been taken on the project.
